The popular local September craft beer get-together received a Big Hearts Award for contributing $25,000 to the Halton Food4Kids program in 2017, to bring its three-year contribution total to the chari- table organization to $45,000. Food4Kids' mission is to provide pack- ages of healthy food for elementary school students from at-risk, low-income or dis- advantaged homes with little or no food during weekend periods or throughout the summer months. Currently, there are 91 youths in Halton Hills who rely on Food4Kids, and the dona- tions made from the community will re- main within it to support the program, said local program co-ordinator Eva Po- doski. Head for the Hills is a volunteer-run fes- tival by the four service clubs (Kiwanis, Kinsmen, Lions and Rotary) and was voted the province's No. 1 beer festival by Ontario Beverage News. Also receiving recognition from Food4Kids at the awards presentation was Acton's Chris Cassey, who was named vol- unteer of the year. Podoski said that Cassey is a "highly en- gaged" volunteer, helping with shopping, packing, deliveries and spreading aware- ness about Food4Kids.
