Brendan D'Agostino tallied twice on Sunday for the 29-11-1-2 Raiders and Carson Pearce had the other, with netminder Na- than Torchia making just 17 stops for the win. Andrew Court added two as- sists. On Saturday night, North York capitalized on a couple of giveaways by the home side to grab an early 2-0 lead on its way to a 3-0 triumph. Georgetown was outshot 35-31. Next up for the Raiders is a trip to Lindsay on Friday to take on the 6-35-0-2 Muskies, fol- lowed by a home date against the Orangeville Flyers on Satur- day at 7:30 p.m. at the Alcott Are- na. HOCKEY Raiders blanked by North York, ground Icehawks The Carle sisters changed clubs during the off-season but are still putting up excellent re- sults at the national level of figure skating in Canada. All three sisters now represent Skate Oak- ville after years with the Milton Skating Club. Competing at last week's Canadian Tire Na- tional Skating Championships in Vancouver, 14-year-old Catherine Carle used a strong long program to leapfrog past a few competitors in the final standings for the Junior Women's divi- sion. Last year's Canadian novice women's cham- pion was 15th after the short program but scored an 83.09 on her long program (seventh best) to climb four positions, making up as much as five points on the skaters she sur- passed to finish with a score of 123.83. Helene, 16, skated in the Senior Women's di- vision for the first time in Vancouver and placed 17th overall. She was 16th (83.27) in her free skating routine. Meanwhile, 11-year-old Audrey represented Ontario in the under-16 Pre-Novice category at the Skate Canada Challenge last month in Mon- treal, placing 13th out of 60 competitors in her field. Catherine was 11th among the junior women, as was Helene in the senior women's category. Georgetown's figure skating family fares well at nationals Georgetown's Hélene Carle competes in the senior women's short program at the 2018 Canadian National Skating Championships last weekend at the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre in Vancouver. Mario Bartel/photo CHAMPS DECLARED AT 50TH ANNUAL PEEL-HALTON BONSPIEL IN ACTON Champions of the C Event at the 50th-annual Peel-Halton Bonspiel were members of the host Acton rink consisting of (from left): Lead George Henderson, second Ron Sheehan, skip Les Otto and vice Claude Pourde. Brampton's Will Jim prevailed in the A Event championship match over the Club at North Halton's Cory McLaughlin, who had won five straight games to earn a spot in the final. Jim had defeated North Halton's Ken McCormack in round five to advance to the championship.
