The 150-year-old build- ing has had many uses in- cluding a church, a movie theatre called The Grego- ry, the Odd-Fellows-Rebec- ca Hall, a restaurant and now a nursery school with more than 50 students. The building has under- gone many renovations over the years and could be described as eclectic. The recent facade work includ- ed new durable siding, new railings on the upper balco- nies making them safer and more usable, and exte- rior painting. The community im- provement plan (CIP) pro- vides matching funding for a number of programs aimed at the business com- munity. The Façade Im- provement Program in downtown Georgetown provides a 50 per cent grant on eligible work to a maxi- mum amount of $10,000. Total grants approved for 2017 amounted to over $150,000, resulting in an overall community invest- ment of $322,000. "I am pleased that Ink- well Montessori School was able to access the CIP to make these very worth- while improvements to their facility," said Mayor Rick Bonnette. "This is the second com- pleted project in downtown Georgetown and demon- strates the town's commit- ment to the business com- munity." The CIP has an annual budget of $75,000. However, funds not used in one fiscal year are carried forward and applications may be submitted at any time. "Operating a business, especially a nursery school in an older building can be a challenge but we certain- ly enjoy the charm and his- tory of our facility," owner Lynne Fitzgerald said. "We are constantly do- ing renovations and main- tenance and we certainly appreciate the financial support from the town. The application process was simple and town staff were very helpful."
