35| The IFP -H alton H ills | T hursday,F ebruary 22,2018 theifp.ca Braeden Murray smiled bashfully as Halton Hills Mayor Rick Bonnette handed him a certificate of honour for his good deed. The 20-year-old Food Basics employee was on his way back from a coffee break on Sunday when he spotted a woman slouched on the ground next to her vehicle, in a secluded area of the Food Basics park- ing lot in Georgetown. At the time, he didn't know that 73-year old Carole Berry had been missing for four days and that there was a full fledged search out for the Brampton woman. "I asked if she needed any assistance," he said, remembering the incident. "She said yeah." Berry was speaking coherently, he add- ed. "I thought she was a bit disoriented from falling," said Murray. They called Berry's family and left a message, and then called 911. He says he had no idea that Berry had been missing, until hours later he received a call from police stating that they were fil- ing a report. He says he doesn't have any idea how long Berry was in the parking lot for, but said there was no one around when he found her. "I was doing what anyone would have done," said Murray. The mayor presented Murray with a to- ken of gratitude and certificate of honour for his deed at the Food Basics on Tuesday night. "I think Braeden is a hero," said Bon- nette. "He saw something that required ac- tion...he realized that this was a lady strug- gling, and in need, and he did something about it."
