More than $10,000 was raised for BBBS mentorship programs in Halton and the Raiders had several teams entered, along with many local businesses and organizations. Kristin Vanderwater photo Raiders roll for kids' sake Long road ahead for Raiders Coming up just a goal short of making it to last year's Royal Bank Cup Canadian Jr. A hockey championship tournament in Co- bourg, Ont., the Georgetown Raiders will have a much-longer hike ahead this spring if they'd like to achieve their No. 1 goal. The Ontario Junior Hockey League- champion Raiders traveled to Trenton last May for the four-team Dudley Hewitt Cup Central Canada tourney, losing 2-1 to the host Golden Hawks after beating them for the league title in a thrilling seven-game se- ries just a week or so beforehand. The 2018 Dudley Hewitt Cup will be hosted by the Superior International Junior Hockey League's Dryden Ice Dogs May 1-5, which is more than 1,700 km away from Georgetown and is best accessed by flying to Winnipeg, Man. Should the Raiders emerge from that event as champions, there'll be little time to rest before jumping on a plane for Chilli- wack, B.C. and the Royal Bank Cup. But before all that, Georgetown will have some tough tests within its own conference beginning in the first round with the St. Mi- chael's Buzzers. A second-round matchup against the North York promises to be tough as the Rangers blanked the Raiders 3-0 in George- town on Jan. 20. Longtime Halton rival Oakville is also in the mix, sitting 20th in this week's Canadian Junior Hockey League Top 20 Rankings, while another possible oppoent for George- town, the Toronto Patriots, are sixth.
