Norton, 63, is the 41st recipient of the award and just the third to be a sibling of an earlier winner. Norton's father, the late Roy Norton Sr., was the 1979 honouree. Norton, a Glen Williams native, began volunteering in Georgetown Minor Hockey as a youngster in the timekeeper's box be- fore taking on coaching jobs in his teens. After coaching his sons at various levels and serving on the executive, Norton be- came the association's lead instructor in its Initation Program. He went on to be a point man for the OM- HA's IP programs across the province for many years and on Coach Tech Committees to improve coaching certification programs and helped in several other areas. Among the guest speakers on the eve- ning was Georgetown's own Sarah Fillier, captain of silver-medalist Team Canada at the recent World Women's Under-18 Hockey Championships in Russia. Former NHL director of officiating Bryan Lewis of the Georgetown Hockey Heritage Council peppered fellow striped shirt Justine Todd with questions about her experiences at the Winter Olympics in South Korea at the awards dinner Monday. Todd, a York Region police officer, is also an Ontario Women's Hockey Association high-performance on-ice official who had some important assignments as a linesman during the women's Olympic hockey tourney, including presiding over the united Korean team's first-ever game, the semifinals involving the U.S. and Finland and the bronze medal match. While Norton was a fixture at local rinks for many years as a coach and IP instructor, he always took time to attend Brittany's cheerleading competitions.
