Ford won the PC party bid after a frenzied ballot dispute on Saturday eve- ning. On Sunday, Christine Elliot accepted the results and released a statement supporting the outcome. "I agree with Doug Ford that Ontario needs to be "open for business,"" said Arnott, who openly en- dorsed Christine Elliott through the nomination process. "I agree that wasteful government spending needs to stop. I agree that elected repre- sentatives need to be ac- countable to the people they serve." Arnott says he wel- comes the news of Elliott running for a seat in the up- coming provincial elec- tion. In response to a ques- tion about whether the Ford name and legacy will affect the party, Arnott said, "for Doug Ford's many supporters, the Ford name means someone who will stand up for the little guy, who will respect the hard-working taxpayer, and who will make govern- ment more accountable to everyone." Arnott says that his pri- orities are always with his constituents in Wellington- Halton Hills, adding that there needs to be a change in government. "The mismanagement, dishonesty and scandals of the Liberals must be brought to an end," he said. "Our party needs to unite behind our leadership and offer the people of Ontario the government they de- serve." We work for you. legal matters Q A REAL ESTATE LAW Howmuch time is required until closing? From the date of the agreement to the closing date, the more time you allow yourself as a purchaser the better off you'll be. Quick closings are often fraught with peril. This is particularly true if you require financing. You need to contact your mortgage broker or bank quickly and have them arrange for financing promptly. Too many times last summer closings needed to be extended because mortgage lenders were not providing financing in time. Sometimes the mortgage appraisals were being done just a few days before closing, or mortgage final approvals were not being completed until just before closing, etc. While there is only so much you can control, it is important to stress to your lender when your closing date is, and your obligation to close the deal on that date. Extensions may be granted by the vendor, but at additional cost to you, not to mention the added stress. You also need to make sure your lawyer has the agreement as soon as possible. There is a title search deadline that is often two weeks before the closing date. Lenders also require the lawyer to provide particular documents a few days before closing in order to fund on time. If mortgage instructions are not sent to your lawyer until a day or two before closing, this becomes difficult. Sometimes the market demands a quick closing, but in order to ensure as smooth a transaction as possible, make sure you get the agreement to your lawyer and mortgage company immediately.
