31| The IFP -H alton H ills | T hursday,M arch 29,2018 theifp.ca With the days numbered before the pro- vincial election, Wellington-Halton Hills MPP Ted Arnott is hoping to get one last thing done. He called on the new minister of trans- portation, Kathryn McGarry, to visit his rid- ing and talk about partnering the munici- pality of Halton Hills with the province to de- velop a transportation strategy for the area. "Last fall, the legislature unanimously endorsed my private member's resolution," he said. The resolution asked for the province to become a funding and planning partner in the town of Halton Hills' second phase of their transportation study. It would entail a $100,000 contribution on behalf of the prov- ince. Arnott listed a number of problem ar- eas on roads in his riding, citing a need for bypasses around Acton and Georgetown and Norval, the widening of the 401 from Mississauga to Milton, and all-day GO train service on the Kitchener line. Back in 2014, the province made a com- mitment to bring full day Go train service on the Kitchener line with Halton Hills stops, which after the election, was said to take 10 years. "I think it's reasonable to point out the government's commitment," said Arnott. "We're trying to get them to expedite that project." He says that he will continue to bring up the transportation file until the house dis- solves in May. "The ministry says we need to show there are operational benefits to the provincial King's Highway 7 before they will become a funding partner in Phase 2 of the town's study," said Arnott in the legislature on March 21. "I don't think that will be a prob- lem."
