Robert John Waldie, born in Acton in 1877, bought the plot of land where the house was built for $160. The carpenter pur- chased the lot on McNab street and built two brick houses in Edwardian clas- sicism style. Complete with a gable front, upstairs bed- rooms and front porch, it is a prime example of this style of house. "The house itself had a lot of architectural details," said Ted Brown, chair of Heritage Halton Hills. The architectural con- servation advisory com- mittee identified a number of heritage features to the house, including arched brick headers around the basement windows, lime- stone headers and window sills and even a rose col- oured frosted pane of glass at the front of the house. "They have to meet very stringent criteria," said Brown, explaining that the features of the Waldie house passed the test. The home is protected from demolition and the homeowner is also eligible for a 20 per cent property tax rebate and grant pro- gram for restoration pro- jects on the property.
