LAST CHANCE TO REGISTER FOR HOUSE LEAGUE GEORGETOWN LADIES' TEAM 3RD IN TORONTO 'A' LOOP PLAYOFFS A team from the Georgetown Racquet Club recently reached the semifinals of the Toronto & District Women's Squash Association's top flight before bowing out to the second-place entry. From left, Samantha Thomas, Anita Debruyn, Kathy Cowper, Betty D'Oliveira and Dianne Jackson finished the winter season in third place before entering the A league playoffs. Bernie Gavadza photo FINLAYSON'S ACE MAKES IT A DOZEN Not even when he's on vacation is a golf course safe from the clubs of local resident Reg Finlayson. The 77-year-old struck for his 12th hole in one recently while spending time on the U.S. Atlantic coast, sinking his tee shot on the 140-yard 17th hole with a 7-iron at the Brunswick Country Club in Georgia. The Club at North Halton member has won several Golf Association of Ontario titles in his career and his 11th ace happened on the same course in Georgia on the same hole four years ago. The shot was witnessed by playing partners George Costaris, Bill Prince and Bill Johnston. Bill Johnston photo For a team that looked down and out nearly three weeks ago, the Georgetown Raiders are again playing their best hockey when it matters most, knocking out the Ontario Junior Hockey League's best regu- lar-season team in their home rink Tuesday night. Andrew Cordssen-Da- vid and Bailey Molella put the second-seeded Raiders up 2-0 after the opening pe- riod of game 7 against the Toronto Patriots and the defending-league-champi- ons held on for a 3-2 tri- umph for their third straight South/West Con- ference title. Georgetown moves on to face the North/East Conference-winning Wel- lington Dukes in the Buck- land Cup best-of-7 final, with the series dates yet to be announced. The Raiders, who are 4-0 in elimination games in these playoffs, will have home-ice advantage against the Dukes after fin- ishing the regular sched- ule with four more points. Pulling off their second consecutive game 7 series win after an improbable comeback against North York, head coach Greg Wal- ters' side earned its third road win of the series over the Patriots at the West- wood Arena in front of close to 700 spectators. Fifth-year forward An- drew Court potted an emp- ty-netter with less than two minutes left in regulation to give the visitors a two- goal lead, but in such a tightly contested series, it wasn't surprising that the Patriots battled back with 29 seconds remaining to keep the result in doubt. Raiders' goalie Troy Timpano, who started the Memorial Cup final last spring for the OHL's Erie Otters, made 27 saves for the victory in goal and had an assist on Molella's marker. Without veteran for- wards Jonathan Hampton and Brendan D'Agostino in the lineup, Georgetown was able to shake off a pain- ful game 6 loss Sunday at the Alcott Arena after giv- ing up four first-period goals and having a rally spoiled by a Patriots' short- handed goal in a 6-4 defeat. The winner of the Georgetown-Wellington series moves on to the Dudley Hewitt Cup in Dry- den, Ont. May 1-5 in a four- team round-robin tourna- ment to determine the Central Canadian repre- sentative for the Royal Bank Cup national cham- pionship in Chilliwack, B.C. May 12-21.
