Brampton Brick was seeking permission to be- gin extraction of the 34.9- hectare (97 acre) Norval Quarry site, which, ac- cording to estimates, would produce 5.8 million- tonnes of shale over 30 to 40 years. Lawyers and experts objected to the plan, saying it failed to address truck safety concerns, land use issues, water contamina- tion concerns, and impacts to fish habitat and future and existing residential de- velopment. Pit-STOP president Janet Kuzniar said in the release that she hoped fu- ture plans for the land "will include a large protected natural corridor, connect- ing people and wildlife along this Credit River tributary in the midst of a growing urban area." The site, she said, is in- cluded in the Natural Heri- tage System of the Green- belt. NEWS l Continued from page 1 Brampton Brick withdraws application The finished products of an intergen- erational art program involving resi- dents of the Mountainview Residence re- tirement facility in Georgetown and stu- dents from Christ the King Catholic Sec- ondary School was on display at the Halton Hills Public Library through the month of March and more of the artwork will be available for viewing there throughout May. The partnership between the two is called the New Horizons Program and has been in place for more than a decade with various schools in the area, which has now come to an end as the grant funding has been exhausted. Residents from the Mountainview fa- cility ventured over to the library in late March to see the display in the history room and received a private tour of the Helson Gallery from curator Judy Daley. More of the intergenerational artwork will be put back on display at the gallery in May. Intergenerational artwork displayed at Halton Hills Public Library PLEASE RECYCLE THIS PAPER
