5| The IFP -H alton H ills | T hursday,M ay 17,2018 theifp.ca Halton Hills Mayor Rick Bonnette is hoping to keep his seat in the upcoming municipal election. The four-term leader of Halton Hills is looking to continue his work around the horseshoe, focusing on growing the town's commercial and industrial tax bases, as wells as support the development of afford- able housing and environmental initia- tives. "I would like to thank all of those who took the time in these past few months who have telephoned, emailed and spoke to me personally encouraging me to run again," he said. "I will continue to use my leader- ship skill to be an advocate for this great community." Bonnette is also the author of a chil- dren's book, The Adventures of Goon Sha- roon, which he dedicated to his late moth- er. Bonnette says one of the most trying times in his career was the ice storm of 2013, where Halton Hills was one of the hardest hit municipalities in Southern On- tario. Intensification and growth, he says, is one of the most difficult issues to manage around the horseshoe. When residents come forward opposing a development, and the project aligns with the provincial growth plan, he says the municipality has tough decisions to make. If elected, Bonnette says residents can expect the same mayor that they've had for over a decade. "The same down-to-earth guy," he said. "It's been a real privilege to be mayor."
