9| The IFP -H alton H ills | T hursday,M ay 24,2018 theifp.ca As Canadians move closer and closer to cannabis legalization, a common question arises: Who's smoking this stuff ? Media and lifestyle brand Civilized re- cently conducted a joint survey with Penn Schoen Berland (PSB) Research to get the low down on Canada's cannabis-loving de- mographic. Here's what you need to know: The majority of Canadian marijuana smokers reside in Ontario However, the study states these users most commonly live in larger cities, rather than small towns like Halton Hills. Canadians are more likely to smoke a joint than their U.S. counterparts According to the study, Americans will more often enjoy marijuana from a pipe than Canadians will. Canadian marijuana users are typical- ly in their 30s They are also typically unmarried and do not have children. This demographic typically holds full- time jobs They also earn approximately $50,000 annually. They are mostly politically Liberal This demographic most often votes for the Liberal party, but occasionally sup- ports the NDP. Education does not play a role in wheth- er or not a Canadian smokes marijuana The study shows that 34 per cent of Ca- nadian marijuana users have a high school education or less, 36 per cent have some college or technical school education and 30 per cent have a college degree or higher. Men and women smoke up equally as of- ten There's no differentiation between the number of men and women who smoke marijuana in Canada, the study shows.
