11| The IFP -H alton H ills | T hursday,M ay 31,2018 theifp.ca A recent survey by the Halton Region has found that residents are pretty satisfied with services. According to the survey con- ducted by Pollara Strategic In- sights, Halton residents are 98 per cent satisfied with their qual- ity of life and 97 per cent are satis- fied with the quality of region services. "The Service Optimization Survey helps us understand what issues are top of mind for residents," said regional chair Gary Carr. Here are four of the top ser- vices that residents said they are satisfied with: 1) Waste management ser- vices: The region recently un- veiled changes to their recycling program and even enhanced col- lection services after the recent windstorm. 2) Quality of drinking wa- ter: Residents expressed satisfac- tion with their drinking water; however, a pocket of residents in Hornby have experienced disrup- tions for nearly a decade. The region recently an- nounced they are providing them municipal services. 3) Sewage treatment and disposal: Halton is currently up- grading the wastewater treat- ment plant in Acton, with con- struction set to finish in spring 2019. 4) Paramedic services: With recent investments in paramedic mental health, programs for as- sisting seniors and preventing calls, paramedic services are constantly growing and modern- izing. The region is still advocat- ing for better dispatch times from the call centre. Residents also identified areas of improvement for the Region, with major issues that they hope the government focus on improv- ing. 1) Traffic congestion: Whether it's lines of traffic back- ing up in Norval during rush hour, or gridlock in Burlington, residents hope the region can im- prove the flow of traffic across this growing region. 2) Transportation: Residents identified concerns with transit and the development of systems in the cities and towns across the region. 3) Growth and development: With the pressure of develop- ment in the GTA, Halton resi- dents cited development as being a major area of focus for the re- gion.
