By participating in Blue Box, Green Cart, YardWaste, Reuse andHousehold HazardousWaste programs, as well as diversion programs at the HaltonWaste Management Site (HWMS), Halton residents continue to have one of the highest residential waste diversion rates in Ontario. In 2017, 58%of all residential waste was diverted from theHWMS landfill. Also, through our shared commitment, we have helped to extend the lifespan of the landfill from 2012 to between 2044 and 2048 - over 30 years longer than expected. This has saved taxpayersmore than $15million by deferring the costs of building a new site.
