Roy will be running against current Coun. Bob Inglis as well as Ron Norris in what's set to be a hotly contested ward in the up- coming election. "Being a project manag- er, I'm representing various stakeholders," said Roy, who works to lead and solve problems in her role at a tech company. "The constituents of my ward are my stake- holders." She says that her lifelong experiences give her valu- able assets to help lead the town, because she works ev- ery day to bring people to- gether, balance their issues all with a common goal in mind. "What I'm looking for- ward to is speaking directly to people in my ward," she said, adding that she hopes to hear their concerns and keep the community en- gaged with local govern- ment. "What I stand behind is remaining small town strong," she said. "Watching all this growth ... what I re- main passionate about is keeping that small-town feel." Roy says that she's al- ways wanted to run for council, and with her daugh- ter fully grown and graduat- ed university, now feel like the right time. In her daily life, she com- mutes to Toronto by GO train for work and says that she understands the chal- lenges commuters face in the town, adding that she would like to work on in- creasing transit opportuni- ties in Halton Hills, as well as advocate for extended GO service. Talking to friends and neighbours in town, Roy is getting a feel for the key is- sues that people feel pas- sionate about, and the gaps in knowledge about munici- pal government. "To me, my heart will al- ways be on the side of the people," she said. "Being that mode of communica- tion between residents and the municipality." In her spare time, Roy curls competitively and en- joys taking part in triath- lons.
