37| The IFP -H alton H ills | T hursday,July 12,2018 theifp.ca Located beside an auto service centre and dealer- ship on the southeast cor- ner of Trafalgar Road and 10 Sideroad, it's under- standable that someone would miss seeing the food truck that's been a popular stop for locals, truckers and Newfoundlanders for the past 20 years. So about a month ago, business owner Melissa Keith had the building painted pink. "It's made a big differ- ence," said the Georgetown resident. "A lot more people are noticing it now. Business is good." It's not as if Louanne's had been overlooked by motorists buzzing by. The big seller on the menu is the rich, decadent, guilty pleasure called Newfie fries, daily hand-cut spuds from Downey Potato Farms north of Shelburne that are covered in gravy, ground beef, cheese curds and onions. Keith said she's in the process of revamping the menu but promises the reg- ulars it won't stray far from the fan favourites such as burgers, fries, hotdogs, sausages, peameal bacon sandwiches and onion rings. Also on the menu is the Newfie Joe, a sloppy Louanne's version of the namesake sandwich. The Newfie fries' reci- pes have been passed down, Keith added, from the original owner, a New- foundlander, when it was known as John's Fries ap- proximately two decades ago. John sold the truck to Louanne several years back and Keith, who is Louanne's sons' girlfriend, took it over in 2015. "I was just out of school and didn't know what I wanted to do at that point," Keith recalled. "Louanne was planning on selling the business and there was actually an offer from someone else to buy it. It's a great location, so I thought I'd give it a shot and I love it." Louanne's is open Wednesday to Sunday from noon to 7 p.m. For more info call 905- 703-1201. COMMUNITY Melissa Keith of Georgetown took over the operation of Louanne's Famous Fries three years ago but has kept the recipes dating back two decades for the Ashgrove food truck's best-seller, Newfie Fries.
