The firm, which has been in operation since the 1800s, has had a location in Acton before, which opened in 1930 in a unit above a café. "In some respects, we are kind of returning, because this was a café that we have converted," se- nior partner Allan Kogon said, referring to the former Starlight Café. Despite the bout of nostalgia the historical building brings for its new owners, the office at 35 Mill St. E is not without its newly renovated perks. Helsons pur- chased the building in Septem- ber, and renovations commenced in January and include wheel- chair-accessible front doors, new floors, added insulation and soundproof rooms for client pri- vacy. Kogon said he believes, from a business standpoint, it is an ideal time to provide Acton residents with another law firm. "Acton is at a bit of a changing point in its history ... and a num- ber of lawyers who have been here forever are on the verge of retiring," Kogon said. "So we saw that, from a busi- ness point of view, Acton was underserved with lawyers, so we are hoping to provide a ser- vice." Kogon added that though Hel- sons has historically served Ac- ton clients, they have had to at- tend the Georgetown office. He said the new office will provide them with added convenience in that regard. The Acton location will have four acting lawyers and support staff. The firm offers a number of legal services, including real es- tate purchases and sales, prepar- ing wills and powers of attorney, assisting in the administration of estates, incorporating business- es, family law issues, civil litiga- tion, driving offences and crimi- nal charges.
