Louliana Polar photo COMMUNITY Silvercreek Communi- ties, the company behind the McGibbon condo in downtown Georgetown, is starting a new condomini- um project on the site of a historic factory in Napa- nee, Ont. The Gibbard District Riverside Residences is Silvercreek's latest pro- ject, set to be built on the site of the old Gibbard Fur- niture Factory dating back to 1835. "The Gibbard Furni- ture Factory is a cherished part of Napanee's history," said Silvercreek on their promotional website. The site backs on to the Napanee River, which has a private kayak dock, as well as access to shops and commercial areas. The facade of the for- mer factory is set to be pre- served in the project and incorporated into the pro- ject. The team plans to con- struct two buildings, one five storeys, the other six inside the footprint of the former furniture factory. Silvercreek is partner- ing with Doornekamp con- struction for the build, which is set to have bright and modern one, two- and three-bedroom condo units. Don Jackson, vice-pres- ident and general manager of SilverCreek Communi- ties, told the Napanee Bea- ver newspaper that "Napa- nee is refreshingly one of the municipalities that ac- tually has a vision," stating that their staff have been welcoming and expedient. The units will have stained oak ceilings, pol- ished concrete floors, and views overlooking the riv- er. Alongside the 143-unit condo, Silvercreek is plan- ning a piazza, or communi- ty hub outside the building for community events. The building will be heated and cooled with geothermal energy and will access hydroelectric energy from the waterfall close by. They hope to have shov- els in the ground within two years.
