TheIFP.ca The day after he discovered his friend had been fatally shot on a Brampton street, a George- town resident who goes by the name of Dave Harold changed his Facebook profile picture to a photo of Derrick Mckeown. No caption. Just the last pho- to Mckeown posted of himself to Facebook. And the likes came pouring in. To his friends, Derrick Mcke- own was a man who always had their best interests at heart and who wouldn't think twice about defending them, should the situ- ation arise. "Derrick and I have boys the same age. We were friends," Harold said. "He was a caring man and a good father. He was well liked among all his friends." Harold says in their younger years, if anyone picked on him, Mckeown would be there to de- fend him. "If someone said something to me, he would have my back," he said. "He was always there for his friends; that's just who he was." Georgetown resident Dave Corley remembers Mckeown in a similar light. "Derrick was a great friend. And a loving person," he said. "Would give the shirt off his back for you." Benji Fowler currently lives in New Zealand, but the former Georgetown resident met Mcke- own through mutual friends. "Derrick was more like a brother than a friend, because he was always there whenever I needed him, no matter what," Fowler said.
