5| The IFP -H alton H ills | T hursday,S eptem ber 6,2018 theifp.ca A number of bronze plaques, along with addi- tional historical bronze structures have been sto- len from Norval and McNab parks this week, Kathy Gastle of the Nor- val Community Associa- tion said. The evening of Aug. 29, Gastle, a volunteer with the Lucy Maud Montgom- ery Museum and Literary Centre, said she arrived at the site in Norval to do some work and noticed immediately that a bronze plaque appeared to be missing from the park. As she continued walking through the garden, she noticed more and more were gone. "I was overwhelmed," she said. "It is very dis- turbing that they would clear a community of their community beautifi- cation projects." Gastle said five bronze plaques were stolen from the Children's Garden of the Senses and one from the woodlands. A 1997 sun- dial dedicated to local war veterans, as well as a chil- dren's bronze sculpture were also missing, she added. "There are so many memories, events and spe- cial occasions associated with these plaques," she said. "Our whole history." Alex Fuller, manager of corporate communica- tions with the Town of Halton Hills, says the town is investigating the matter and that the stolen plaques are valued at ap- proximately ten thousand dollars. "Very disappointed and disgusted that someone stole all of the bronze plaques and flower pots in Norval this past few days," Mayor Rick Bonnette wrote to Twitter. "These plaques depict Norval's history and milestones achieved." Gastle says she is looking to speak to any residents and employees of nearby businesses who may have seen any suspi- cious activity or have sur- veillance footage that could be of use.
