35| The IFP -H alton H ills | T hursday,S eptem ber 27,2018 theifp.ca The Georgetown Soccer Club is proud- ly celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. The house league season came to an end on Sept. 8 at Trafalgar Sports Park that saw over 1,500 players from George- town and Acton enjoying soccer. The top U13 and older teams were awarded league and cup champions while all the players were excited to receive tro- phies and medals to remember their fun season. On closing day, the Georgetown Soc- cer Club proudly donated $1,000 from the 2018 GSC Eustace Collins Memorial tour- nament in July to support Chance to Play, which provides used soccer gear to com- munities in need across Canada and de- veloping countries. In addition, the club presented a $1,000 cheque donation to the Canadian Tire Jumpstart program from the five-versus- five charity tournament on May 26 to help Halton Hills families in financial need to participate in sport. Soccer does not end with closing day, however, as indoor house league regis- tration is now open with the season tak- ing place from early November to the end of February at the Dufferin Centre in Ac- ton. For those interested in rep soccer, tryouts for U13 and older players (born in 2006 and earlier) take place Sept. 29 and 30 at Trafalgar Sports Park. In the round robin, they beat Oakville 1-0 and then lost to London 2-0 in a very good game. This setup a must win against Toronto Leaside, where the Twisters won 1-0. In the semifinals, the Twisters had a re- match with London and after three peri- ods, the score was 0-0. In overtime, it was back and forth and looked like it was going to another shootout until the Twisters scored with 5.5 seconds left. This earned them a spot in the finals, where they defeated Burlington 2-0 to win their second Gold title this season.
