This is clearly an is- sue that needs to be ad- dressed with the provin- cial government, yet the money the board does re- ceive now needs to be spent in the best ways pos- sible. Inclusion and integra- tion can only be done properly when the re- sources are there to sup- port it. Right now, those supports are lacking and our students and teachers are stuck. The curriculum does not meet the needs of all of our students, and it is not easily adjusted to make accommodations for the various needs. If there aren't enough EAs available to help those with differentiated needs, no one is really succeed- ing. The teachers are frus- trated when they can't reach every student in their class. The students are struggling with work they cannot always un- derstand and there aren't any levelled textbooks available. Trustees have the responsibility of mak- ing sure the board is mak- ing the best use of the money they receive and I would do my best to make sure the needs are met. Grade 6 math scores, ac- cording to EQAO data, are down in Halton and across the province. Why do you think that is and how should it be addressed? These "standardized tests" are really not stan- dard at all and there is no clear marking scheme. While it can give an indi- cation of where a student is, it is not an accurate ac- count of the knowledge a student has when there are so many conditions put upon the people that are marking the tests. The scores only look at how many students achieved the "provincial standard" which is not the same as how many students passed the test. The score they are looking for is ac- tually statistically impos- sible for all students to achieve, which is mislead- ing the public, the parents and the students. I have never agreed with the testing and would rather see the govern- ment stop doing them and use those funds to go back into the schools that need the money. Do you support the pro- vincial government's roll- back of the sex-ed curricu- lum? If so, which aspects of the 2015 curriculum do you oppose?
