The submitted question from the audience was posed to candi- dates running for regional coun- cil and Ward 3 council, asking about the costs and purpose of the trip to Wenjiang, China, last fall. It asked where the funding for the trip came from, as well as the business outcomes from the connections politicians estab- lished with business leaders in China. "It was completely a business trip," said Jane Fogal, current re- gional council representative for wards 3 and 4. She explained that the trip was the latest in a series of treks back and forth between business and government lead- ers in Wenjiang. "We were approached by the Chinese," said Fogal, explaining that officials from Wenjiang have also come to Halton Hills, and are planning a Halton Hills Cultural festival in China, just like the Wenjiang festival that Halton Hills celebrated this year. In addition, she said the lead- ers were working to build a con- nection with Halton Hills Hydro and possibly set up a distribution Aside from the regular questions about density, affordable housing and transit, ward three candidates were thrown a curve-ball when one resident asked about the costs and purpose of the Halton Hills 2017 trip to Wenjiang, China.
