"All Union Gas employ- ees take a proactive ap- proach to preventing safe- ty issues and take immedi- ate action when a safety is- sue is identified," said Marc Hoewing, Union Gas field supervisor techni- cian. "We know that the Halton Hills Fire Depart- ment are committed to keeping the community safe each and every day. This is seen through their actions and the safety pro- grams that they provide. We're proud to support these efforts." The Ontario Fire Code requires carbon monoxide (CO) alarms to be installed in every home and in all residential buildings where a fuel-fired appli- ance or an attached garage exists. The Halton Hills Fire Department's Carbon Monoxide Awareness pro- gram and Home Safe Home Fire Safety program edu- cate citizens on the re- quirements, proper instal- lation and maintenance of CO alarms. The $2,500- grant will be used to pur- chase additional educa- tional materials and CO alarms, to continue these valuable programs. "Smoke and CO alarms are critical life safety de- vices that are required in every residential home. We are very proud to have a partnership with Union Gas," fire Chief Harry Oliv- ieri said. "Their assistance helps Halton Hills citizens be safe from carbon mon- oxide poisoning."
