Through the read-a- thon, sponsored by Us- borne Books at Home, the students raised money to read for 30 days. Those funds were then used to purchase brand new books. "They had to set their own goal, either number of books or minutes," Nicole McCloud, of Halton Hills Christian Homeschoolers, said. "Fifty per cent of what they raised went to new books for the library. The other 50 per cent was for them to shop for books to encourage a love of read- ing." The stack of books was presented to children's ser- vices librarian Lisa Hun- ziger on Oct. 16, to be added to the library collection. In addition to the recent donation, the homeschool- ing group is currently holding a bookraiser to help the Zore family in Georgetown, who experi- enced a house fire last month. McCloud says she hopes to be able to help rebuild the family's library. The bookraising event is ongoing until Oct. 24.
