Halton regional police are kicking off Crime Pre- vention Week, which runs from Nov. 4 to Nov. 10. "We know from experi- ence that crime prevention works. When police partner with community agencies and engage with their resi- dents to stop crime in its tracks, everyone wins," said Chief Stephen Tanner. Police will be promoting crime prevention through- out the week with the sup- port of Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police, as well as the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Ser- vices. Crime prevention efforts can focus on a number of dif- ferent issues, from opioid use in communities, cyber- fraud, gun amnesty pro- grams and even guidance on legal marijuana use. "We are proud that Hal- ton Region has maintained the lowest crime severity in- dex in Canada for 13 straight years. But the bolstering of community safety and well- being takes hard work and collaboration," said Tanner. "That's why the Halton Re- gional Police Service is proud to partner with gov- ernment, community lead- ers, young people, and busi- nesses to prevent crime throughout our communi- ty." Police will be making more announcements through the week on com- munity partnerships on crime prevention.
