Nineteen participants put their sewing expertise to good use on Saturday in an effort to keep some hands warm over the coming winter months. The Sewing Café of Halton Hills held its fourth annual Mitten Marathon on Nov. 10, where members and visitors came out to create pairs of mittens out of old wool sweat- ers. Each year, the café teams up with Nancy Moran of Nan- cy's Upcycled Creations to do- nate half of the mittens creat- ed to local shelters. The remaining portion is donated to the Salvation Ar- my church. "It's just fun seeing every- one together and it's nice to be able to give back to the com- munity," Sewing Café co- founder Anna Barkhouse said.
