Herb and Ester - a lovable pair Herb and Ester are two sweet senior dogs, approximately 9 or 10 years old. Herb is a Toy Poodle/Bichon Frise cross and Ester is an American Cocker Spaniel mix. They were found as strays wandering together in Georgetown, but unfortunately their owner(s) could not be found, and so they came into the UCHS Shelter. They've been with us for a couple of months now, while we worked to get them healthy again. They both had severe dental issues which have now been remedied, and are ready for adoption. These two LOVE to go for walks - get your own exercise while making this pair very happy! As they are a very bonded couple, they must be adopted together. If you would like to see them in action, we have a short video of them playing in the autumn leaves. It was posted on our Facebook page on November 1st. Senior animals are often overlooked in favour of the young ones, but it can be a very rewarding life for the adopter and the older animal(s). If you think you can offer a home to this lovable pair, please call 519-833-2287 to arrange a visit to meet them. Herb and Ester come with 30 days of pre-paid pet health insurance. Members of the community interested in visiting UCHS are invited to stop by from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. daily, including weekends. During these hours, visitors to the shelter can meet animals available for adoption, drop off donations, fill out adoption applications, speak with staff, etc. Since the beginning of the year, UCHS has found homes for 344 cats, 74 dogs and 56 small animals for a total of 474. We could not do it with the help of volunteers, donations and the kind hearts of those who come to adopt. Thank you all. Herb Ester Standish Standish was lonely wandering by himself and was delighted when he encountered children playing outside. He joined them and stayed. When no ownerwas located hewas surrendered to NHKR. Standish is estimated to be three years old. He is a happy boy and a comfy location for naps, attention and play time are his needs. When he would like to be noticed, he has the tiniest meow and then waits for something to happen. He is social with other cats and not aggressive. When faced with a confrontation hewill pause to stand up for himself before he runs off to play. He would be content as an only cat or a friend to an older cat but a kitten would be too much energy for him. He encountered a friendly dog and was not frightened but cautious. Standish likes to take his time, so his food area and litter box are tidy and when he scratches he uses his sisal post. He protests having his nails trimmed but he can be firmly persuaded to comply. Older children would find him fun to play with. If he doesn't appreciate an activity he wiggles to get away or gives a gentle swat but no scratching. He has a low energy level which may appeal to a family with a calm household. Standishwasoutside andhas shown an interest in going back outdoors, so caution will be needed when he is around open doors, although at his foster home he is content to stay indoors. Standish and Lord Nelson will be available for adoption this Sat. at Pet Valu 375 Mountainview Rd South from 2:00-4:00. The $160. cash adoption fee includes: vaccinations, parasite treatments, spaying, microchip and a bag of food. for more information visit www.NHKR.ca or call Barb 905-873- 8547 Standish - calm and collected UPPER CREDIT HUMANE SOCIETY BARB JOHNSON submitted photos submitted photo Visitwww.NHKR.ca for pictures and profiles of the kittens currently available & how to adopt.
