Each year, the village celebrates the birthday of Lucy Maud Montgomery, who was born on Nov. 30, 1874. The famous author of Anne of Green Gables lived in Norval from 1926 to 1935, where she wrote five books and three-and- a-half volumes of personal journals, as well as many short stories and poems. In honour of Montgom- ery, the Norval Communi- ty Association, St. Paul's Anglican Church, Norval United Church, Norval Presbyterian Church and St. Elias Church host an- nual church bazaars for local residents and visi- tors from all over the GTA. This year, the celebra- tions included visits from Santa and Mrs. Claus, the Norval United Church Brass Band, Lucy Maud Montgomery portrayed by Ro Coatsie, and Anne of Green Gables portrayed by Alex Richardson. Dur- ing the event on Nov. 24, regional Coun. Clark Somerville also brought greetings from Mayor Rick Bonnette and coun- cil, presenting a congratu- latory letter to members of the Norval Community Association for their 25 years hosting the event. Norval Community Association members, along with Alex Richardson as Anne of Green Gables and Ro Coatsie as Lucy Maud Montgomery, accept a congratulatory letter from councillor Clark Somerville on behalf of the Town of Halton Hills, in honour of the 25th Anniversary of Montgomery Christmas.
