By preparing today, you can be ready for whatever the season has in store, and I encourage you to plan ahead to help keep your family safe. You can follow three simple steps to be prepared for any emergency: • Step 1: Know the risks. Identify potential hazards in your area that might cause or contribute to an emergency, especially dur- ing winter weather. • Step 2: Make a plan. Ensure your household knows what to do during and after an emergency, as well as how to evacuate your home, where to go and how to stay in touch. • Step 3: Get a kit. As- semble or buy kits for your home and car that include medication, food, water and any essential items your household (including your pets) would need to stay safe and healthy for 72 hours. In the unlikely event that dangerous conditions require you to leave your community, Halton can no- tify you using social media, mobile alerts or a call to your land-line phone. If you need to evacuate, fol- low the instructions pro- vided by officials and seek shelter with family or friends. The region may al- so open an evacuation cen- tre in one or more of these local facilities to provide temporary shelter: • Haber Community Centre, 3040 Tim Dobbie Dr., Burlington • Gellert Community Centre, 10241 Eighth Line, Halton Hills • Milton Sports Centre, 605 Santa Maria Blvd., Mil- ton • Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre, 2302 Bridge Rd., Oakville Halton works with first responders and the local municipalities to ensure we are ready to respond to emergencies. As winter ap- proaches, please join us in being prepared by taking personal precautions that can help protect your fami- ly, your home and your community.
