In a press release issued by the Ministry of Munici- pal Affairs and Housing on Wednesday, March 13 the Province said it would hold an online consultation that would be open to all people who live or work in the ar- eas included in the review. The review will examine Ontario's eight regional municipalities (Halton, York, Durham, Waterloo, Niagara, Peel, Muskoka District and Oxford Coun- ty), the County of Simcoe, and their lower-tier munici- palities. The deadline to submit comments for the online consultation is April 23, 2019. "We promised the people of Ontario that all levels of government would work harder, smarter and more efficiently," said Steve Clark, Minister of Munici- pal Affairs and Housing in the press release. "Our government is put- ting people first by seeking local input on how to im- prove governance, decision making and service deliv- ery for regional govern- ments and their member municipalities." In addition to meeting with municipalities and stakeholder groups, Special Advisors Michael Fenn and Ken Seiling will assess the feedback received through the online consultation. They are expected to pro- vide their advice and rec- ommendations to Clark this summer. "I look forward to receiv- ing the recommendations and hearing what is work- ing in the regions and Sim- coe County, and what can be improved," said Clark. The special advisers will work with the province to explore: • Opportunities to make it easier for residents and businesses to access munic- ipal services; • Processes to deliver effi- cient and effective local ser- vices that respects taxpay- ers' money; • Methods to make mu- nicipalities open for busi- ness; and, • ossibilities to cut red tape and duplication, and save costs.
