Flames were already visible through the roof of the John St. home when the Halton Hills Fire Depart- ment arrived shortly after receiving the call at 8:38 a.m.; the home had two residences, but the fire department re- ported that no one was home at the time of the fire. Firefighters began an aggressive interior attack, but the fire quickly spread between the walls and into the attic. As a result, the firefighters were removed from the house and the aerial truck was brought in to fight the fire from above, as well as a few lines fight- ing the fire from the back of the house. Smoke was still billowing from the home three hours later, as firefighters worked to locate any hot spots that might reignite the fire. More than 30 firefighters and 12 trucks from all three Halton Hills sta- tions were on scene to battle the fire.
