Now fitted with a GPS, Dylan's parents can check in and even listen in to the conversations their son has as he rides his bike around the neigh- bourhood. But as sunlight peeked through the clouds, and Dylan returned home, the rumble of what might have sounded like thun- der in the distance in- creased. On May 14, more than 40 bikes turned off Guelph Street toward Dylan's home and eventually lined the street in front of the house. Riders from six chap- ters of the Southern Cruisers Riding Club, some from as far as Port Dover and Wasaga Beach, came out show their sup- port. "I'm overwhelmed," Wendi Best, Dylan's moth- er, said. "Several of these people know Dylan." Dylan greeted the bik- ers excitedly, waving to each rider as the bikes lined his street. "He absolutely loves motorcycles and he loves people," Best said. "He hasn't stopped hugging and talking and getting on bikes. He's a superstar." Dylan wove his way through the crowd, talk- ing with and high-fiving club members. "I'm overwhelmed that this many people would do this for my son," Best said. "Dylan and his dad used to ride with us about nine years ago," Tommy Branco, first officer for the Peel Chapter of the SCRC, said. After sharing the Inde- pendent's story on Dylan to the club's Facebook page, plans to visit started to materialize. "A lot of these people know Dylan," Branco said. "And we just want to support him, there's not better freedom than being on two wheels." The club supports a va- riety of charities through different rides, but this visit was not about money. "This was getting a show of support and get- ting Dylan to smile," Bran- co said. "There's no money ... nothing could buy this." What started with the Peel chapter of the riding club quickly spread to oth- er chapters, including Burlington, where the as- sistant provincial officer of the club, Mike 'Jimmy G' Garrison, rides. "We've come in support of our Peel chapter," Gar- rison said. "This doesn't happen often, it's a special event." The club is considered a riding club, a separation from motorcycle clubs (or MCs for fans of Sons of An- archy), generally associ- ated with outlaw culture. Garrison said the club is in the 99 percentile of rid- ers, a reference to the American Motorcyclist Association quote that 99 per cent of riders were law-abiding citizens. "We're a family-orient- ed club, we've raised mon- ey for 15 to 20 charities throughout the season," Garrison said. The family has since re- ceived a letter of apology since the Dylan was pushed into a nearby pond by two youths on May 3.
