This year, the foun- dation is distributing $73,000 to a variety of local charitable causes. THOSE RECEIVING GRANTS INCLUDE: • Big Brothers Big Sisters Halton and Hamilton • Christine's Place • Halton Learning Foun- dation • Milton Philharmonic Orchestra • Muskoka Christian School • Reach Out Centre for Kids (ROCK) • Tiger Jeet Singh Foun- dation • Townsend-Smith Foun- dation • FirstOntario Arts Cen- tre Milton (in support of the FirstOntario Credit Union Every Child, Every Year - Milton Arts Program) • Mario Belvedere Fund for United Way • Milton Historical Soci- ety These organizations were celebrated recently in an event at Acton Town Hall. "We are pleased to an- nounce the 2019 grant recipi- ents and congratulate them for their tremendous work in their community," said grants committee chair Lin- da Bischoff. "I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our fund holders for their contributions to make this possible." CFHN doesn't raise and use donations like other charities. When it receives funds from a donor, the money is placed in an en- dowment fund, where it re- mains protected and gath- ers interest year after year. The revenue is used for grants that are given to charities in perpetuity. Donors can give to a spe- cific charity or several char- ities at once. A donor can al- so choose to give to an area of interest. CFHN now has almost $3.3 million in its en- dowment. "The Community Foun- dation of Halton North's vi- sion is to grant back to char- itable causes," said CFHN chair Brad Clements. "I am thrilled that the foundation is now in its fifth year of ful- filling its mission and has granted almost $180,000 in that short time." Current fund holders worked with the foundation to decide this year's grant recipients. CFHN also iden- tified two new funds this year, the Palliative Care Fund to help support the palliative needs in the com- munity, and the Mental Wellness Fund, which is fo- cusing on youth and youth mental health this year.
