Tori Ranson, a 26-year- old Georgetown woman, designed this year's Spe- cial Olympics doughnut. On July 20 - Tim Hortons Day of Inclusion - Ran- son's creation will be sold at nearly 4,000 locations across Canada, with all proceeds going to the Spe- cial Olympics. "We put the challenge out to Special Olympic athletes to come up with their own designs," said Zack Pryzbek, manager of marketing for Tim Hor- tons. From about 700 en- trants, Ranson's design was chosen to be sold dur- ing the second annual Day of Inclusion on July 20. The doughnut is a cross between a honey cruller, a Boston cream, and a va- nilla dip. A honey cruller topped with vanilla fon- dant and red sprinkles is cut in half and filled with whipped topping. "100 per cent of the pro- ceeds from the Special Olympics doughnut go back to help Canadians with intellectual disabili- ties," Pryzbek said. Ranson started partici- pating in the Special Olympics when she was 14, and continues to com- pete in athletics, rhyth- mic gymnastics, basket- ball, soccer, and swim- ming. Jim di Natale, fran- chise owner for the three Tim Hortons' locations in Georgetown, said pre-or- ders for the Special Olym- pics doughnut were al- ready happening. In Georgetown pre-or- ders are available at any Tim Hortons location (11 Mountainview Rd. N., 326 Guelph St., or 373 Moun- tainview Rd. S.).
