It's the question weigh- ing on local parents' minds -- will my children be at- tending Acton District High School starting in grade 7? The Halton District School Board has put forth a proposal to move the grade 7 and 8 program from McKenzie-Smith Bennett to ADHS. MSB and the board's other elementary school in Acton, Robert Lit- tle, would become kinder- garten to grade 6 facilities. A total of 38 responses were recently received from local parents through a feedback form on the board's website, with 18 in- dicating they're in support of maintaining the status quo, 10 in favour of the pro- posed change, and 10 need- ing further information be- fore they decide. As the evaluation pro- cess nears completion, here are five things you need to know about the boundary review: 1. A final decision hasn't been made yet. The Bound- ary Review Committee held its last meeting Jan. 28 and will now forward its recommendation to pro- ceed with the changes to the board's larger Bound- ary Review Steering Com- mittee (BRSC). 2. The BRSC will then make a recommendation to Director of Education Stu- art Miller, who is tasked with making the final rec- ommendation to the board of trustees. 3. A report from Miller will go before the board at its Feb. 19 meeting for infor- mation purposes. The trustees will vote to make a final decision on the matter during their March 4 meet- ing. 4. If ultimately approved, the changes would take ef- fect at ADHS and MSB in September 2021, and at Rob- ert Little this coming Sep- tember. An integration committee would be formed to work out the day-to-day logistics, such as schedule timing for the grade 7 and 8s that's different than the sec- ondary students at ADHS to keep a certain level of sepa- ration between the two stu- dent bodies. 5. Local parents can reg- ister to delegate at both the Feb. 19 and March 4 meet- ings and share their posi- tion with the board before the trustees vote. Instruc- tions on how to register, and further details on the boundary review, can be found at hdsb.ca.
