"This is devastating for the community," said Doug Tripp, president of the Concerned Resi- dents Coalition. "We strongly be- lieve it's a bad decision based on the merits of the case." The CRC formed in 2013 to op- pose the Hidden Quarry applica- tion and incorporated into a non- profit organization the following year. Since 2013, it has raised over $700,00. Among the coalition's concerns are risks to water and the environment. "As far as we're concerned, we're trying to decide if there's any recourse that we can ex- plore," Tripp said. "We're trying to cope with the reality that this decision has gone against the community." The LPAT decision ultimately approved the application, but about a dozen conditions would need to be met by James Dick Construction Limited (JDCL). While the application to re- zone the property was made in 2012, JDCL has owned the proper- ty since 1989, according to compa- ny vice-president Greg Sweet- nam. "We've been monitoring the water and managing the resourc- es on that site for that long period of time knowing that it would one day be the right time to bring it to market," he said.
