Ashbee 2018 Large Business of the Year As an essential service, our office continues to operate at full capacity with our doors locked and without physically being with clients. The Law Society of Ontario now allows lawyers to virtually witness the signing of documents. Ontario Legislation that specifically required all Wills and Powers of Attorney needed to be witnessed in person has now changed to allow virtual witnessing. Welcome to the World of Zoom. We maintain a strict protocol to combat the virus and keep staff and clients safe. All documents coming into the office from outside are handled with gloves and placed in isolation for 7 days. If documents need to be processed prior to 7 days then with gloves we copy them on a printer dedicated to only documents received from outside our office. We deal with the copies and put the originals back in isolation. No-one touches an original document from outside without gloves or prior to a 7 day isolation period. Clients that have to come into the office because they have no computer to video conference come to our lobby where social distancing is strictly followed. After the meeting all surfaces touched by our clients are sanitized. We are also keeping our Georgetown and Acton offices separated. No staff or Lawyers from one office go to the other office. All documents going between offices are treated as if they have come from outside using full protocols. Be safe. At a recent in camera council briefing, chief ad- ministrative officer, Brent Marshall, advised staff of changes to a couple of key positions. The town's com- missioner of corporate services, Jane Diamanti, will be retiring. Diamanti was appoint- ed to the role in 2014, hav- ing served 14 years as the director of library servic- es for the Halton Hills Public Library. "As the needs of the town began to grow, I was looking to tap into talent to address key priorities and advance specific stra- tegic initiatives," Mar- shall said in a prepared re- lease. "Diamanti's strengths as a general manager and leader in the organization have result- ed in demonstrated growth and success in all of her department's areas, notably the budget, which has evolved significantly, resulting in a robust and transparent process." Effective May 18, Chris Mills, commissioner of transportation and public works, will move to the corporate services role by appointment of the CAO. The role includes the divisions of: accounting, human resources, infor- mation technology, pur- chasing, and revenue and taxation. Mills has been with the town since 2004 when he joined as the manager of development engineering. He has held multiple posi- tions during his tenure. "Mills' experience in serving the community on the street ground crews and his knowledge of pro- ject planning and working with stakeholders will serve the municipality well in his new role sup- porting the divisions that work behind the scenes to keep the municipality functioning," Marshall said. Bill Andrews, the cur- rent director of engineer- ing, will replace Mills as interim commissioner.
