The Town of Halton Hills is asking residents wanting to celebrate Victoria Day with fireworks to follow CO- VID-19 health and safety protocols, including physi- cal distancing and keeping gatherings to less than five people. "If you choose to light fireworks on Victoria Day, follow the rules, adhere to the physical distancing and social gathering require- ments and be respectful of your neighbours and their properties," said Halton Hills Fire Chief Harry Olivi- eri. Discharging fireworks is only allowed on Victoria Day (Monday, May 18). Fireworks can only be discharged on your own property, unless consent has been given. They cannot be discharged on any town property (in- cluding parks) without per- mission. Other rules to adibe by include: • You must be at least 18 years old, or under the su- pervision of someone at least 18 years old. • Fireworks can not be discharged in a manner that creates a nuisance or danger to others. • Firecrackers are not permitted. A list of safety tips can be found on the town's website. Halton Hills businesses wishing to sell fireworks will have to complete and submit a checklist to the fire department, which will then issue a sales permit if ap- proved. Previously, the fire department conducted on- site inspections of business- es selling fireworks. "I know that many fami- lies enjoy discharging fire- works, so I am asking resi- dents to be extra vigilant this year both in terms of abiding by our bylaws and the provincially-led-direc- tives on COVID-19 to protect everyone's health and safe- ty," said Mayor Rick Bon- nette.
