By participating in Blue Box, Green Cart, YardWaste, Reuse andHousehold HazardousWaste programs, as well as diversion programs at the HaltonWasteManagement Site (HWMS), Halton residents continue tomaintain a high residential waste diversion rate. In 2019, 57 per cent of residential wastewas diverted from theHWMS landfill. Also, through our shared commitment, we have helped to extend the lifespan of the landfill from 2012 to between 2044 and 2048--over 30 years longer than expected. This has saved taxpayers more than $15million by deferring the costs of building a new site.
