File No.: D14ZBA19.004 This story is part of a Metroland-wide se- ries on drugs, guns and human trafficking happening along the major highways that run through our communities. For more on this topic visit Highway Pirates -- guns, drugs and human trafficking. Look beyond the plate. This is what OPP officers are trained to do when stopping drivers for otherwise routine traffic offences on Ontario's high- ways. They rely on a combination of internal radar, technology and judgment to read the lay of the land when approaching vehicles that - as experience has borne out - may be bringing guns, drugs and human traffick- ing our way. "At times you go in and you believe you are dealing with your mom and pop - your regular person just on their way to go to work, shopping, whatever," said Staff Sgt. Carolle Dionne. "This is where officers al- ways need to remain vigilant, because there is nothing regular about a traffic stop." That much is evident in numerous me- dia releases detailing the gun and drug sei- zures that happen along highways leading CRIME OPP Staff Sgt. Carolle Dionne.
