The force has received multiple complaints about the same letter, Const. Ryan Anderson said. The typed letter tells people that a person in their life has hired the writer to harm them in some way. The writer offers to de- ny this request to harm them in exchange for a pay- ment of Bitcoin from the person, police said. The suspect then prom- ises to reveal the identity of the person who wants to harm them. "These extortion letters can be convincing, are of- ten tailored to an occupant of the residence, and arrive by Canada Post," Anderson said in a news release. "This is a scam." Police are urging resi- dents not to follow the in- structions in the letter and not to send a payment of Bitcoin. Halton police are inves- tigating the source of these letters.
