More ice is on the way in Halton Hills. While rinks at Prospect Park and George- town Fairgrounds opened over the weekend, demand for ice was high. At the Jan. 11 council meeting, Mayor Rick Bon- nette announced two addi- tional rinks were being constructed, but urged against skating on storm- water ponds. "Stay off the storm wa- ter ponds," Bonnette said, as the ponds collect runoff including water from road- ways. "Salt from roads re- sults in an inconsistent ice thickness." In December, an 11-year- old boy died after falling through the ice at a Milton pond. Additional outdoor ice surfaces will open at the Acton Arena and George- town Fairgrounds. A limit of 10 skaters on the ice at a time is in effect. Game play is also not per- mitted on the ice surfaces. NEWS OUTDOOR RINKS ADDED TO MEET DEMAND REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE
