At 8:20 p.m. two men, one armed with a kitchen knife, entered the Daisy Mart at 273 Delrex Blvd. and demanded cash. The lone employee complied with the demand and the men took an unknown quantity of cash from the register before fleeing on foot. A heavy police presence attended the robbery including uniformed officers, a canine unit, criminal investigations bu- reau officers, tactical unit officers, and identification officers. No physical injuries were reported. The first suspect is a black man, about 20 years of age, and was wearing dark clothing, a balaclava and gloves. He was armed with a knife. The other suspect is a white man, about 20 years of age, also dressed in dark cloth- ing. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Halton Regional Police Service at 905-825-4777. CRIME DAISY MART ROBBED BY ARMED SUSPECTS BRYAN MYERS bmyers@metroland.com Although the latest provincial pan- demic rules state that five people are per- mitted to gather outdoors, Halton Public Health is urging residents to avoid all get- togethers. Recent social media messaging and out- door signage from the local health unit en- courages people to have no indoor or out- door gatherings. Halton health officials say this has been part of their public health guidance since late last year. "While the provincial public health measures do state that outdoor organized public gatherings and social gatherings are further restricted to a limit of five peo- ple with limited exceptions, Halton Re- gion's Medical Officer of Health continues to advise no indoor or outdoor gatherings with anyone outside of their immediate household," said Halton Public Health in a statement. The Province has indicated that social distancing is expected and wearing a mask is strongly recommended for outdoor gatherings. This isn't the first time that Halton's public health messaging has differed from the directives coming from Queen's Park. Halton Medical Officer of Health Dr. Hamidah Meghani previously recom- mended restrictions on team sports and fitness classes before the Ford government ultimately rolled out similar rules. A stay-at-home order went into effect across Ontario Jan. 14 that says people should only leave home for essential pur- poses, which includes grocery shopping, medical appointments, essential work and exercising or walking pets. Halton Public Health advises "if you must leave home for essential purposes, wear a face mask, practice physical dis- tancing and wash your hands thoroughly."
