Jon Rehill, formerly the fire chief at the City of Kitchener since 2015, will move into the Halton Hills role on Feb. 1. "Kitchener's loss is our gain," said May- or Rick Bonnette. "I am confident that Jon has the skills and experience necessary to lead our team." Rehill was chosen by a hiring commit- tee comprised of staff and council mem- bers. "The interview process was as robust as can be expected for a position of this na- ture," said Moya Johnson, councillor and chair of the committee. "I am pleased with the calibre of applicants we were able to at- tract and ultimately I believe we have the right person for the job." With a master's degree in emergency management, Rehill also holds a number of technical fire certifications. Harry Olivieri, Halton Hill's former fire chief, retired at the end of 2020. "Jon will be an excellent complement to the senior management team and current fire leadership," said Chris Mills, acting chief administrative officer. "I know the Halton Hills Fire Department will contin- ue to thrive and meet the growing demands of our community -- particularly impor- tant as we manage the impacts of CO- VID-19."
