Halton police homicide detectives have taken over the investigation of last week's fire that claimed the lives of a Georgetown cou- ple. The bodies of Krystyna and Andrzej Rerak were re- covered following the Feb. 17 fire at their Hidden Trail home. They were identified through a source close to the investigation. Police are now in posses- sion of a video provided by a neighbour that appears to show an unknown person following a vehicle into the open garage of the home where the couple was later found dead. There were no further developments at press time. More than 26 Halton Hills firefighters were on scene to suppress the fire that broke out in the early- morning hours last Wednesday. They arrived to a fully-engulfed residence. Neighbour Beata Baruk described the Reraks as a friendly, "very nice couple," while Kandas Wilczek said the couple came here from Poland years ago. "This is just shocking," she said. "They were such hardworking people." Tweeted Jerry Rusak, "I'm so heartbroken and devastated to learn of the tragic passing of very close family friends. Andrew Re- rak was practically an un- cle to myself and my broth- ers growing up. Him and his wife were wonderful peo- ple. I'm deeply saddened by this horrific tragedy. R.I.P." A co-worker said An- drew Rerak was a manager at The Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company of Canada. Anyone with informa- tion about the incident is asked to call police at 905- 825-4747 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. - With files from Louie Rosella and Bryan Myers NEWS FATAL FIRE DEEMED SUSPICIOUS Krystyna and Andrzej Rerak died in a fire at their Georgetown home last week.
