Applications are now open for the Town of Hal- ton Hills' 'Al Fresco in the Hills' program, an outdoor dining initiative designed to support local restau- rants, bars, and other food and drink establishments. The program aids estab- lishments in expanding dining capacity while ad- hering to public health reg- ulations and COVID-19 safety guidelines. "We were pleased to ini- tiate the Al Fresco in the Hills program last year as a means to support our lo- cal food establishments throughout the pandem- ic," said Mayor Rick Bon- nette. "This industry in partic- ular faced hardship so I was pleased to see so many businesses participating in this program." Al Fresco in the Hills launched in June 2020 to al- low for temporary patios until Jan. 1, 2021. The program was sus- pended during the winter months and will relaunch for the 2021 patio season. Temporary patios will be permitted until Jan. 31, 2022. "I'm a big proponent of supporting local business- es and I can tell you that our restaurants have done a great job to continue serving the community while adhering to restric- tions and keeping resi- dents safe," Bonnette said. As of press time, Halton remained under the Red/ Control level of Ontario's COVID-19 Response Framework. At this level, restau- rants, bars, and food and drink establishments can open for outdoor dining.
