Allan, was the beloved husband of Catherine (née Johnson) for 49 years and the proud father of Richard (Julie) and Allison (Jason). He loved his grandchildren - Olivia, Catherine, William, Alice, Rebecca, and Charlotte - dearly and will be deeply missed by them. He is predeceased by his parents Luitjen and Dina Kok (née Slijm), sisters Fanny Huizinga (Hank), Ann Lenting (Wes), and his brothers Hendrik Kok (Grace), and Dick Cook (Lottie). He is survived by his sister, Wilhemina van Daalen (Peter), and his brothers Edward Cook (Elaine) and Richard Cook (Winnie). Allan was born Eldert Kok in the Netherlands on October 8, 1946 and immigrated to Canada in 1950 with his family. As the youngest of eight children, Allan first moved to Parkhill and then later, Strathroy, where he attended school. Allan graduated from Ryerson University with a degree in marketing and turned his gift of gab into a career in lumber and hardwood flooring sales. He had a life-long love of politics, history, religion, and knowledge. After retiring, Allan spent many hours enjoying his time at the Hillsview Seniors Centre where he was an avid bridge player. Allan's love for Georgetown, and his dedica- tion to community service, was evident from his active involvement in numerous organizations. He felt privi- leged to be a local councillor for eight years and a regional councillor for four years. This gave him the opportunity to serve on many boards and committees: Halton District Health Council, the Elderly Services Advisory Committee, and as Chair of the Halton Regional Police Services. Allan was also Past Master of the Friendship Masonic Lodge, President of the Georgetown Agricultural Society for two terms and was granted an honorary lifetime membership. As a faithful member of Knox Presbyterian Church, he taught Sunday School for over twenty years, served as an Elder for over twenty-five years, and as a trustee for the past few years. Allan also coached youth hockey and volunteered for Boy Scouts. He valued people and genuinely enjoyed getting to know them. Allan was a strong person; he taught his children and grandchildren the value of hard work, discussion, and to enjoy a good debate. He will be greatly missed. Friends were received at Jones Funeral Home, 11582 Trafalgar Rd. Georgetown, on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 from 6 - 8 p.m. Funeral was held on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at 11 a.m. in the chapel. Interment at Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Knox Presbyterian Church, Heart and Stroke Foundation and the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated. Koren (aka Kory), beloved wife of Don Murray for 16 busy years and the dedicated loving mother of their three daughters Mckenna, Victoria, and Rachel (plus Jax the rescued covid wonder dog). Loved daughter of Ieva Risk and Jim Risk. Sister of Robert and his wife Alba. Reunited with her late sister Kristina (also April 2, of 2008). Koren enjoyed a special connection with her spirited "Granny" Velta Vilsons (2018 at the age of 98), aunt and uncle Inga and Bill Hellings, and close family friends Dr. Karol Matthews and John Brants. Daughter-in-law of Lou Murray (the late Norma Murray, 1997) and his wife Trudy Cameron. Sister-in-law of Kerri and Dennis Aarts and Aunt to Avery and Trevor. Koren will be fondly remem- bered by her family, close friends, neighbours, students, and work colleagues for her adventuresome spirit, deter- mined work ethic, indepen- dence, and constant pursuit of youthful fun. Koren was an all- star mother, daughter, sister and spouse - providing leadership and loving support to all. She was deeply proud of her daughters and instilled in them her love of adventures big and small, reading (Harry Potter, Hunger Games, etc), board games, arts and crafts at the cottage (and the Alliston Potato Festival), running, education, animals, extra- curricular activities, and giving back to the community. Koren so enjoyed growing up in the heart of Toronto with the tight Collier Street bonds while keeping busy playing many sports including soccer, ringette, and competitive swimming. She adored res- cuing and fostering animals from the Toronto Humane Society. After graduation from Northern High School, Koren earned an Honours Bachelor of Applied Science degree from the University of Guelph while working with troubled youth and lifeguarding. Upon graduation, her adventure- some spirit took her on her own to Japan for a year to teach English and climb mountain peaks. She then moved to the Caribbean to work as a youth counsellor for Premier Cruise Line, which was the official Disney cruise line at the time. That adventure took her to ports of call all over the Americas and Europe. She was quickly promoted up through the ranks during her 6 years there, becoming an officer on ship and then leading the youth programs for the cruise line from head office on land in Florida. The cruise line closed down, so Koren decided to return to Canada to earn her Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Toronto. While waiting for the fall school year to start, Koren worked as a flight attendant for Roots Air/Skyservice to get in a few more months of adventure travel. Upon graduation from U of T, Koren was hired on the spot during her very first school board interview. She was offered a full time elementary teacher position in Georgetown, which she and fiancé Don had to look up on a paper map to discover its peaceful and welcoming location. Koren worked full- time at George Kennedy Public School and later as a part-time teacher at Harrison Public School. She helped lead student teams to Battle of the Books championships, and supported cross-country and relay teams, school concerts, choir, and food drives. She taught in every classroom from K-5 at Harrison and positively touched the lives of so many children. She also spent time as a local Girl Guide leader, supporting her children's sports and activities, and collecting donations for the Upper Credit Humane society. Koren's favourite memories were the many adventures and special times experienced with her three daughters, husband Don, and close family. The family would like to thank Dr. Carson and the team at Sinclair Medical Associates, Dr. Iskander and the team at Georgetown Hospital, Dr. Herman and the oncology team of highly skilled nurses at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, Dr. McGowan and the oncology team at Credit Valley Hospital, and the Oakville Chapter of Wellspring. Due to covid restrictions, a small private celebration of Koren's life will be held in the Jones Funeral Home chapel. A lively celebration of a life fully lived will be scheduled when large festive parties return to their prior glory. Any tax-deductible memorial contributions would be appreciated to The Lighthouse Program for Grieving Children (see http://www.grievingchildrenligh thouse.org/index.php, then click Donate, then click Memorial Donation), Upper Credit Humane Society (see https://uppercredit.com/, then click Donate Now), or any worthy cancer charity of your choice.
