The 2020 Sunshine List has been released, and the Town of Halton Hills now has almost 100 employees earning above $100,000. The annual list names all public sector employees earning over $100,000 in Ontario. In 2020, the Town of Hal- ton had 98 employees who earned over the threshold, about a third of the Town's 314 full-time employees. Those employees ac- count for about 28 per cent of the Town's payroll based on a 2020 budget of $44,273,745. Sunshine List mem- bers at the Town grew by nine, from 89 employees in 2019. The top earner at the Town was CAO Brent Mar- shall, who earned $267,597.25, up slightly -- $2,563.58 -- from the previ- ous year. Marshall has been on leave since Aug. 24. There is no set date for his return. Chris Mills, acting CAO, in Marshall's absence earned $218,251.86 in 2020, the second highest salary at the Town. Mills is one of four em- ployees to earn more than $200,000 in 2020 - the first year employees aside from the CAO earned about that amount. Marshall and Mills are joined by Warren Harris, commissioner of recre- ation and parks (up from $189,358.08 in 2019), and John Linhardt, commis- sioner of planning and de- velopment (up from $181,468 in 2019). Moya Leighton, the Town's treasurer and di- rector of accounting, is the highest paid woman, at $169,497.91. A third of employees on the list were women, earn- ing an average salary of $123,297.93 annually in 2020, while men earned an average of $131,154.29. Nearly as many employ- ees on the list worked for the Halton Hills Fire De- partment, though the aver- age salary for firefighters was $122,404.20.
